On Legitimacy, Power, and Historical Reasoning

I am a Vietnamese researcher based in Tokyo and a former ADB-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) scholar, currently pursuing a PhD in Asia Pacific Studies at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University. My research lies at the intersection of International Relations theory and historical analysis. I study legitimacy, norms, and the historical foundations of political authority in international politics, with a regional focus on East and Southeast Asia. My current work explores how historical legacies continue to shape contemporary international norms and state behaviour. I was appointed by the Mayor of Kawasaki City (Japan) to serve as a member of the Kawasaki Foreign Residents Representative Assembly (2022-2024), contributing to discussions on multicultural coexistence and local governance.

My Master's thesis examined the blurred boundary between international law and politics through how states strategically use dispute settlement mechanisms.
