On Legitimacy, Authority, and Historical Reasoning
www.trgiang.com

I am a Vietnamese researcher based in Japan and a former ADB-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) scholar, currently pursuing a PhD in International Relations (Political Science) at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University. My research sits at the intersection of International Relations theory and historical analysis, focusing on legitimacy, recognition, and the historical foundations of political authority in international politics, with a regional focus on East and Southeast Asia. My current work develops the concept of “Authority in Abeyance” and a broader framework of recognition circulation to explain how political actors survive under overlapping international orders. I was appointed by the Mayor of Kawasaki City (Japan) to serve as a member of the Kawasaki Foreign Residents Representative Assembly (2022-2024), contributing to discussions on multicultural coexistence and local governance.

My Master's thesis examined the 'blurred' boundary between international law and politics through how states strategically use dispute settlement mechanisms.
